Sodium lactate is manufactured by fermenting a sugar source, such as sugar cane, potatoes, beets, or corn starch. It is used for its hydrating properties, a humectant and as a buffering agent, pH controlling agent or exfoliant.
Sodium lactate is also often used in cold process soap to produce harder soap bars.
